Alternative Spring break - Peru
Spring break is a time to get away from the routine of college life, let loose, and do new things. Seven students and a Sister from the Community of the Beatitudes in Denver did just that. The group traveled to Peru in the region of Lima and Callao, and even though we spent time basking in the bright sun on a warm, idyllic beach with the cool breeze of the brilliant Pacific washing over us, the trip was anything but your traditional spring break trip.
It was a week of encounter, of service, of endurance, and of friendship. Our time was spent with the Community of the Beatitudes in Callao at the local parish, and throughout the week we took part in small service projects affecting the parish community. Along the way we met people full of hope and desire for Christ. They touched our lives, and we hope to have left something for them. The time away from campus and the responsibilities there provided a freeing time of reflection.
We are going back! We invite you to join us in 2016, and we ask you: Who will you encounter? How much of yourself do you want to give?
